David Gibson has shared a curious observation about the PlayStation 6.
As reported by IGN, he has shared a report on the company as senior analyst of MST Financial.
Gibson said that Sony expects the PlayStation 5 to have a longer life cycle than their other consoles. In fact, Sony may not launch the PlayStation 6 until after 2028.
Within their family, the PlayStation 2 currently holds the record of the longest life cycle at 13 years. This meant it lasted the lifetime of the PlayStation 3, and it was only a few months short of the launch of the PlayStation 4.
While some fans may be happy at this news, it may not be all good for Sony. If they were preparing for the PlayStation 6 launch but had to delay at the last minute, they spent a substantial amount of R&D that did not have to be spent.
But then again, if this is not the ideal decision, it may be the one with the least downsides. Between uncertainties on component supplies, the volatile video game market, and other factors, launching a console now or next year could be a fatal mistake.
