Mass Effect FPS became 3’s Multiplayer Mode

March 16, 2012 by Mat Growcott

Mass Effect was to have an FPS, it was cancelled, but all that hard work became the multiplayer mode in Mass Effect 3.

You might have heard people complaining about Masss Effect 3's multiplayer mode. "Another single player game getting a tacked on multiplayer mode!" they say in disgust. Little do they know that what makes up that multiplayer mode was actually going to be the competitive part of a first person shooter based within the Mass Effect universe.

The guys at PS3.MMGM say, although they don't name their source, that what became the first multiplayer Mass Effect was actually supposed to be a first person shooter called Mass Effect Team Assault and that four months were spent coming up with a prototype in 2010. Why it was shelved despite being good enough to base a  mode in the main series on isn't disclosed, although the idea as a whole is interesting if true.

Mass Effect 3 has recieved critical acclaim, despite some internet-goers being very disappointed with certain aspects of its release.
