A month after being revealed, gamers are talking about Highguard – but with more confusion than optimism.

Wildlight Entertainments’ PvP raid shooter was the finale game reveal in 2025’s The Game Awards. Weeks before the show, a Kotaku report revealed that game companies can pay up to $ 450,000 for a one minute trailer to join the event.
A three minute trailer can cost as much as a million dollars, but Keighley will sometimes offer some trailer slots for free.
As reported by Paul Tassi for Forbes, two sources told him Keighley offered the finale slot to Wildlight for their game Highguard for free. He also pointed out that Imran Khan revealed this rumor first.
When Tassi shared this rumor on Twitter, WolfBainSkyhunter replied that they heard there was another game that had the slot but bowed out because they got delayed.
While we can’t verify WolfBainSkyhunter’s sources or claims, if this is true, then Keighley must have been genuinely confident in the game.
For now, the public is waiting for Highguard’s release and if Wildlight will do any more marketing before its January 27 launch.
