Nintendo Co. Ltd. President Shuntaro Furukawa has spoken out about the company’s supplies for their Switch and Switch 2 consoles.
To quote Nintendo Patent’s Watch’s summary on Bluesky:
Components are procured from suppliers based on Nintendo’s medium to long term business plan.
The current memory price has no immediate impact on their financial performance. However, “we must monitor the situation closely.”
Furukawa said this about possible price increases:
I cannot comment on hypotheticals.
Could Nintendo Also Increase Their Prices Because of Supply Issues?
Furukawa went on the record to reassure fans that they aren’t affected by these supply issues. We have Nintendo’s word that their fans are good for now.
We want to be clear that these concerns are warranted. As WCCFTech reported last month, Nintendo’s emmc suppliers, Samsung and SK Hynix, refuse to sign new long term contracts for their products, even to giants like Google and Microsoft.
Nintendo’s philosophy of using older components usually gets criticized for constraining the performance of their devices.
But these circumstances seem ideal for them now. Those older components are also cheap, and more importantly, in ready plentiful supply.
But like Furukawa, we won’t dare predict the future for Nintendo or the industry.
