Baldur’s Gate Teaser Site Reveals Enhanced Editions of First Two Games, Coming Summer 2012

March 15, 2012 by Josh Harmon

The BioWare classics are getting a facelift courtesy of Atari and Beamdog.

The countdown at BaldursGate.com has ticked down to zero, revealing the announcement of Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, coming this summer from Atari and digital distributor Beamdog's development arm, Overhaul Games.

At the moment, details on what exactly will be "enhanced" are pretty much non-existent at the moment, but an overhaul of the graphics to current gen standards seems by far the most likely scenario. As we reported when news of the teaser site first broke, Beamdog has previously worked on an HD remaskter of another classic BioWare title, MDK2.

Also unknown are what platforms the Enhanced Edition will be coming to, though it's safe to assume the list will include PC, at the very least.

We'll be updating this space with whatever info we get in the coming hours, but in the meantime we'll leave you with this promotional image from the site, which is currently down due to some ridiculously high traffic volume.

Update: Beamdog's Trent Oster has revealed a few new details about the project on his Twitter account, including the news that the Enhanced Edition will feature brand new content developed by original Baldur's Gate team members, and will include the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion.

Update 2: The game is apparently exclusive to Beamdog's digital distribution service on PC, and we can expect further platform announcements and the first screenshots this time next week.

Update 3: Trent Oster has just announced that there are actually two separate games on the way, an enhanced edition of Baldur's Gate and its Tales of the Sword Coast expansion, and an enhanced version of Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and its Throne of Bhall expansion.
