Grand Theft Auto Online’s Self-Driving Cars Will Give Players “KnoWay Out” Missions And Challenges

It looks like Rockstar did have something in mind when they added a Waymo parody into Grand Theft Auto Online.

It was only yesterday when we found out that Rockstar was adding KnoWay, their Waymo parody, into the game as part of A Safehouse in the Hills.

Since we just found out about it, it was really a bit perplexing. This doesn’t seem to be related to Rockstar’s presentation of A Safehouse in the Hills, and the De Santas.

We can recognize that it’s particularly relevant now that Waymos are far more prevalent, but it still seemed to come from nowhere.

The KnoWays Get Their Own Story Content

As we found out from Lucas7yoshi_RS, there are KnoWay related missions, related to Avi Schwartzman. He shared the details of one of these missions, which we’ll share below:

Description:

Don’t panic, but I got some seriously crappy news. KnoWay are taking their operations underground.

Do you ever brave the LS subway? Well, now’s your chance.

So it sounds like the player is going after the KnoWay’s corporation themselves.  That indicates this parody is more than a mild satire.

Prashant Jadav shared even more details, with screenshots of some KnoWay related challenges and rewards. We’ll share those details below:

But now a question comes up regarding these missions:

Are You Fighting KnoWay… Or Teaming Up With Them?

Of course, the first thing in everyone’s mind is that Rockstar added in KnoWay for another company that the player can fight. But we can’t discount that all of these early previews may be misleading a little bit.

If the idea is to give players some exciting new stories, they may have deliberately broken with expectations and come up with a tale that makes out the company running KnoWay as the good guys.

Or maybe they aren’t necessarily the ‘good guys’, as much as they may be the entity that gives out these so-called KnoWay Missions themselves. After all, the rewards for these missions seem to be KnoWay merchandise apparel.

It seems we can’t make assumptions about how Rockstar is depicting KnoWay, and by extension, the whole self-driving cars thing. It’s also worth considering that this content was definitely not made by Dan Houser, who left the game and company years earlier.

So this is Sam Houser, or possibly a new batch of creatives in Rockstar, who have a story to tell. So it’ll be interesting to find out what that story will be.
