Has Rafa’s Soltado Skill Been Fixed In Borderlands 4’s Latest Patch?

November 21, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

It’s too bad that it took this long.

Gearbox seems to have finally addressed the big issue surrounding Borderlands 4 Vault Hunter Rafa.

In their latest patch notes, Gearbox made sure to say this:

Exo-Soldier’s Soltado Kill Skill passive has been adjusted to function properly with two skill points

What Was The Issue With Soltado?

As Gearbox explained, Soltado is a passive skill that doubles the bonuses you get with your other skill, Overdrive.

Overdrive itself increases Rafa’s movement speed and damage. But to enable Overdrive, you also have to activate one of Rafa’s Action skills.

What this all ultimately means is that Soltado should be OP as Rafa’s skillset comes and goes. That’s three skills working together to increase Rafa’s effectivity to attack.

The issue is Soltado was not working properly after earning the first skill point. So it wasn’t scaling up to be as powerful as intended.

Rafa is a powerful Vault Hunter as he is, and there are players who found that they liked playing with him best. But this fix was not about making Rafa playable.

This was part of Gearbox’s bigger post-launch plans to rebalance the game with an eye towards variety. So they wanted everyone to be incentivized to use as many skills and experiment with them as possible.

Soltado Took A Really Long Time To Get Fixed

Gearbox should be commended for their effort, but we do have to recognize something here.

The Soltado issue was around since the game launched. Even up to last month, Gearbox was telling fans that they had a fix in the works, but they were not able to get it in that month’s update in time.

Gearbox has been diligent in identifying and fixing issues, but this one seems to represent the worst that the players have had to deal with. Many Rafa players may have already finished the story campaign and are in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.

So they missed out on getting to play Rafa when he worked properly. They could start over, sure, but it just wouldn’t be the same.

The upside to this is players who hadn’t tried Rafa yet, or people who haven’t bought the game yet, will now get a chance to play Rafa with the full abilities that were intended for him.

These kind of changes need to all be identified and applied to Borderlands 4 by the time the game finally comes to the Switch 2. So we’re hoping, in a certain way, that Switch 2 gamers will get a definitive version of the game by the time they get their hands on it.
