We think most fans will be happy with this trade.

Grand Theft Auto III might be leaving PlayStation Plus soon…. and that might be fine.

Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition_20211111111408

As reported by RockstarIntel, Grand Theft Auto III: Definitive Edition is set to leave PlayStation Plus’ rotating library of free games very soon. It may sound like bad news on the surface, but the bigger picture does make it seem fine.

You Probably Didn’t Even Like This Version Of Grand Theft Auto III

You may have already guessed this but this was the version of Grand Theft Auto III on Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

So this is the version of the game with the visuals that can output to 4K, but look completely off compared to the original, and is a frustratingly inaccurate version of the game.

We won’t relitigate this version of the game, or the collection in general, anymore. You already know this isn’t the best version of this game. In fact, you can find even better versions on PlayStation.

The Other Versions Of Grand Theft Auto III On PlayStation – And Xbox

It may surprise you to learn that you can still get more accurate versions of these games on PlayStation. There are two interesting options in this regard.

For one, the PlayStation 2 original version was published on PlayStation 4 in 2015. Of course, this version is intended to be as accurate to the original as possible, with some extra features on an emulation level. This version is also playable on PlayStation 5 via PlayStation 4 backwards compatibility.

There’s another version that may no longer be available, but is at least worth bringing up. There is a PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto III that is arguably better than the PlayStation 2 accurate version on newer platforms.

This version has slightly higher texture quality, resolution, and performance. This version of the game will obviously not be optimized on 4K and 120Hz screens, but you may find yourself preferring this version.

And we do have to talk about the Xbox version. Because of Microsoft’s Backwards Compatibility Program, you could have the original game on Xbox, and enjoy a host of modern features on Xbox Series X|S.

The Tradeoff Is Worth It Too

Of course, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online officially entered PlayStation Plus yesterday. We reported on the rumor about this two weeks ago, but it’s now official.

If you were looking for a Grand Theft Auto experience on your PlayStation Plus subscription, this is obviously the best way to go. And this should tide PlayStation users over for the next six months while waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6.
