We’re looking at new claims that Grand Theft Auto 6 has set some new viewing records on YouTube.

As shared on ResetERA by user Red Kong XIX, Grand Theft Auto 6’s 1st trailer now shows that it has hit 269 million views.
They then compare this to the official trailer for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War. That trailer shows that it has 268 million views.
Red Kong XIX put this up in a ResetERA thread titled:
The first trailer for ‘GTA 6’ has now more views than the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ trailer, the most viewed movie trailer (>268 million views)
In that thread, most users have taken it as proof that hype for Grand Theft Auto 6 is off the charts. But we can see some more casual social media users taking it as proof that Grand Theft Auto is now bigger than the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
But this is not the whole story.
Insider Gaming Explains A Confusing Detail
As Insider Gaming explains in their report, the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer’s 269 million views makes it the highest viewed YouTube trailer without ads.
They point out that there are some other trailers that have higher views. Those trailers have YouTube ads, which indicates they get extra views thanks to those ads.
Insider Gaming explains this condition because it shows that Rockstar’s trailer earned those views organically compared to the trailers that have ads.
But that is still not the whole story.
We Should Probably Wait For YouTube Or Rockstar To Announce Something Here
If you’re a YouTuber you probably already know this. But it’s always been somewhat tricky to look at YouTube viewer counts.
As explained in this YouTube Help FAQ, YouTube uses automated systems to track down views. Because of this, the view count that comes up in real-time is not always accurate.
YouTube’s systems identify and remove spam or artificial views after the fact. So YouTube and channel holders themselves need to be skeptical about these numbers.
With all that said, we think there is a high possibility that Rockstar’s YouTube channel did reach some sort of record for this trailer. But they will want to verify it with YouTube first just in case.
We think Rockstar should wait until when this view count number becomes bigger and harder to dispute before they acknowledge it. Anyway, there is no dispute that even this delay has not eliminated the interest and passion fans have for Grand Theft Auto 6.
