Borderlands 4’s first holiday mini-event won’t be with Rush, but it’s rushing to players before October ends.

Horrors of Kairos is the game’s first limited-time Seasonal Mini-Event. This event is completely free but there’s something like a catch for it.

Unlike How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, Horrors of Kairos won’t have a real story campaign, even a short one.

What will happen is that Kairos will change as a whole to fit the upcoming theme. Gearbox promises ‘terror-inducing blood rain’, which we certainly hope won’t be so red that it becomes an impediment to gameplay.

We certainly hope that this will play out in the same way that a full moon appears in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. But we know what treats Gearbox has in store.

Tricky Treats To Get In Horrors Of Kairos

Gearbox is giving away some fun things to celebrate via SHiFT codes. They’ll be spreading around some pumpkinhead masks for all the Vault Hunters to use.

There will also be a “Hex Appeal” weapon skin that’s usable for every weapon. The big impediment, of course, is you have to use SHiFT codes.

These are codes that Rockstar gives away. When Borderlands players redeem SHiFT codes, they can get special weapons or items.

They’re also always temporary. These codes are designed to reward Borderlands players for being active players. If you’ve dropped off, these might genuinely be enough to get you back.

You’ll have to follow Gearbox on social media to see when they have new SHiFT codes up. Randy Pitchford is always ready to share those codes, if you’re willing to follow Randy Pitchford.

Legendaries To Die For

Finally, this event promises these Legendary weapons:

  • “Murmur” Legendary Tediore Assault Rifle: Executes weakened enemies with guaranteed crits on targets under 35% health
  • “Skully” Legendary Order Grenade: This death-dealing grenade fires out projectiles as it seeks out the nearest target

Horrors of Kairos will be live from October 23 all the way up to November 6. That’s a good 15 days to find and earn everything.

We probably should not expect that much more from Horror of Kairos, but everything Gearbox promised does make it sound like one of the most entertaining events this year.

And we know that Gearbox has plans for Borderlands 4’s roadmap for probably a full year. Who knows what they have planned in 2026? We might get a proper story campaign then.
