They may be figuring out which characters are popular right now.

Dark Horse has made a new announcement that Borderlands 4 fans will be very excited to learn.

They made the announcement on Twitter:

We’re thrilled to be partnering with @GearboxOfficial to bring you #Borderlands4 collectibles! While we can’t spill the loot just yet, you’re going to want some room on your shelves.

So What Do You Guys Want To Get?

To be clear, Dark Horse may be best known for their comics, but they’re also in the collectibles business now too. They do make poseable action figures and vinyl figures, as well as non-poseable figures, busts, statues and more.

Past Borderlands games have received toys from some of the best in the industry, from McFarlane Toys to NECA. And Gearbox can always work with them and other companies too. But Gearbox and Dark Horse may have some premium merchandise coming for hardcore fans.

Dark Horse Direct Is Not Mass Market

Dark Horse Direct actually says this on their website’s About Us page:

We produce a limited number of toys, prints, and products each year, focusing on bringing every one to its best expression.

As best as we can tell, this is not a ploy to artificially produce low numbers of toys. But it is true that premium figures and collectibles usually get production runs of 1,000 to 2,000 units. If we’re talking quality control and consistency, these companies can’t commit to making too many items.

Don’t Expect Toy Store Action Figures Here

It really is a different situation from when Hasbro or Mattel commit to making premium figures, such as Mattel’s Jurassic Park The Hammond Collection.

Mattel has the money to fund bigger production numbers of their incredibly detailed dinosaurs. They also have the resources to ensure they have the materials they need, and they’re big enough to keep quality control up for the long haul.

And yes, we know collectors are often critical that even these impressive toys aren’t always consistent. And that’s the difference when you’re a smaller company committed to making higher quality low number figures.

We imagine Gearbox and Dark Horse are trying to figure out who among the new characters will make the cut to get toys and figures. All the Vault Hunters are probably a given at this point. We’ll probably also get the legacy characters who came back, like Moxxi.

But they’re still going to have to wait and see if someone’s set to replace Claptrap as Borderlands 4’s new mascot.
