Rumor: Could Grand Theft Auto 6 Have Aging Like Red Dead Redemption 2?

September 17, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

It’s interesting, but this might not be a real rumor.

There’s a rumor going around about Grand Theft Auto 6 that seems very interesting, even if it may not be legitimate.

GTA 6 Updates shared this on Twitter today:

GTA 6 Characters Are Rumored To Age The Longer You Play The Game

There’s An Immediate Problem With This Rumor

The source GTA 6 Updates claims to link to does not say they got this information from someone in Rockstar or the video game industry. We also tried looking for this rumor on our own, but we can’t trace someone who can name their source.

We believe this rumor is actually pure speculation. This may be based on how Rockstar implemented a slight aging system for Red Dead Redemption 2. The system worked very well for that game, as it served to highlight the changes going on in the Old West itself as events unfolded in the story.

So Maybe It’s A Smart Guess…

Even if we didn’t find a reliable source for this claim, we can’t deny that it’s possible and interesting. At least, it’s worth considering how this could play out for Grand Theft Auto 6.

If we shift the setting from the Old West to modern day Florida, how would a slight aging system work out? What kind of a story would make use of such a system?

We Think It Could Go Something Like This…

When you think of crime fiction, you can usually expect a time skip for events like a character ending jail time. That’s precisely what happens to Lucia at the start of this game.

We can certainly imagine Lucia going through a character arc where the kind of person who she was before prison was not the same person who came out. And that we would see her go through some changes in the course of the game’s events.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, people remember Arthur’s hair and beard getting longer. But that kind of physical ageing may not necessarily make sense for Grand Theft Auto 6. Leonida is a populated cityscape and not an untamed land.

What we could see is Lucia and Jason change hairstyles. Or, they could make other changes to their appearance to be unrecognizable. They could do so to deliberately hide their identities, maybe to hide from a mobster hit or the authorities after a particular nasty event, like a bank robbery gone awry.

There could also be a scenario where some characters let their hair grow as a consequence of some life changing incident. If Lucia goes despondent after her dad passes, for example, she could become a completely different person than when you started playing as her.

So there’s some interesting things that Rockstar could explore. But we have no proof that this is actually happening. So we would tell fans not to hold their breath for it.
