2K Sports Dev Clarifies They Did Not Change NBA 2K26’s Shooting Or Game Speed

Is there some Mandela effect going on in this game?

NBA 2K26 game director Mike Wang had to make a strange clarification about the game online.

He said this on Twitter:

Nothing has changed with shooting or game speed.

When we do make gameplay changes, they will be announced through our official 2K channels and/or patch notes.

What Is Mike Reacting To?

NBA 2K26 players seem to believe there’s some change that Visual Concepts made to the game, but that they didn’t announce it.

We don’t think this is exactly one person, but it seems several content creators have been complaining about how the game plays, and that’s led to this speculation.

We’ll share one example below. Please remember that they’re not the only person sharing this sentiment, and we don’t believe it came from them first.

LxckTV said this on Twitter:

NBA 2K26 had a unannounced patch..

Things that feel changed

– Dribbling on a Tall build such as a (6’8, 6’9, 6’10+) is back to being slow (feels like NBA 2K25)

– Game speed feels like it’s slown down

Hopefully it’s fixed.. cuz the game felt so good now it feels off

At the start of this month, LxckTV was convinced that NBA 2K26 is the best game in the franchise in years.

How Likely Is It That 2K Sports Updated Their Game Without Telling Anyone?

In general, there’s no rule or law that requires game developers to disclose game patches and updates.

But of course, developers share patch notes for a reason. There are changes that developers make that players may not understand or misinterpret if they don’t come with explanations.

It is possible to make changes that don’t come with extensive patch notes. But most of the time, hotfixes and smaller changes like that aren’t felt by the players themselves.

Did Mandela Effect Make It To NBA 2K26?

Mike Wang received a myriad of responses to his tweet. Strangely, what’s clear is that there is no consensus if what he said was accurate or not.

There are fans who are convinced that Wang is lying. There are also fans who believe that the 2K devs are telling the truth. Those fans also believe these content creators and fans are imagining this.

Sinbad fans know how awkward it can get when a community forms around things that only existed in their head. You become part of a TVTropes page, even if your name doesn’t come up there.

Of course, if one of these content creators can prove that they have seen changes, they can then force 2K Sports to address it. So now it’s a matter of coming up with that incontrovertible evidence.
