Borderlands’ Mad Moxxi Gets Her Own Dark Horse Comic Spinoff

Everyone loves Moxxi!

Borderlands 4 is getting a fun little spinoff comic book, starring one of their most popular characters.

Dark Horse Comics shared this announcement on Twitter:

Directly connecting to Borderlands 4, it’s the perfect time to read Borderlands: Moxxi’s Mysterious Memento, available now!

Pretend We Don’t Know; Who’s Mad Moxxi Again?

Mad Moxxi is one of the funniest and most popular side characters in Borderlands lore. She isn’t quite as central to the story as, say, the Sirens, or Patricia Tannis. But she’s become popular enough to make it to all the games, in DLC and side missions.

Moxxi even made it to the ill-fated movie. Tragically, she was perfectly cast as played by cult character actress and gay icon Gina Gershon. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the movie where people talk about her in the same vein as League of Legends’ Jinx and Harley Quinn.

In the lore of the games, Moxxi is a hyperviolent, hypersexualized, highly successful entrepreneur. She owns various bars and businesses around Pandora, and has had relationships with some of Pandora’s other colorful characters. She’s even been married a few times.

We don’t know how old Moxxi exactly is, but the pantomime makeup could be really effective. She has two very adult children in Scooter and Ellie.

Moxxi’s Big Comic Book

Borderlands: Moxxi’s Mysterious Memento was actually published on the leadup to Borderlands 4’s release. This was a four issue comic originally published between November 2024 to May 2025.

Dark Horse just launched the TPB edition earlier this month. They shared this description on their store page:

Former celebrity and current badass Siren Amara misses the fame and excitement of her glory days.

Nowadays common stooges don’t know who they’re messing with—though they soon find out.

In order to reclaim the highs of her former heroics, she needs a gig. Luckily, Moxxi needs help recovering a mysterious artifact . . .

Written by Amy Chu (Carmilla: The First Vampire, Red Sonja) with cover and interior art by Mike Norton (Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. 1956, Revival), the creative team behind this series also includes Borderlands comics veterans colorist Heather Breckel (Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands: Land of the Giants, Plants vs. Zombies) and lettering team Deron Bennet & AndWorld Design (Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands: Land of the Giants, Masters of the Universe: Revelation). This powerhouse crew assembles to tell the story of a mission unlike any other—because there is no one quite like Moxxi!
