Capcom’s Browser Game, Onimusha Soul, to Release this Summer

March 12, 2012 by Joe Ryan

Hopefully more Onimusha than Farmville

Browser games are big business these days. Some games are just fun little one off experiences like Velociraptor Off-Road Safari. Others are a little meatier, offering full RPG experiences or allowing you to play some multiplayer Quake right in a browser window. If a hardcore bullet-hell style MMO is more your speed, you'll want to check out Realm of the Mad God. In short, browser games are not the lame little things they once were.

With that in mind, Capcom is releasing Onimusha Soul, their first browser-based game. We haven't seen an Onimusha game in about 6 years, but it's unclear how closely this game will resemble the Onimusha experience that you might be used to. Billed as a "Sengoku simulation RPG," the game casts players into the shoes (sandals?) of feudal Japanese lords who will have to use "their powers to achieve the growth of their respective states and train military commanders as they fight with other players."

So we aren't 100% sure what that means. However, it certainly sounds like it will be yet another in a long line of time management games, which has me describing my feelings as 'less than excited.' The game goes live on June 28th, and we'll hopefully be getting more details before launch, so hopefully Capcom has something prepared to impress us all.
