Splatoon 3 Gets Trailer For Upcoming North American League Tournament

August 19, 2025 by Todd Black

Time to splat for ultimate glory!

While it’s true that we’re still waiting on certain announcements for the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s also fair to note that there are still things going on with the Nintendo Switch that will have players’ interest. One such thing is the Splatoon 3 North American League tournament, which will start a little later this year. Yesterday, Nintendo dropped a trailer for the event and noted that on September 2nd, players would learn more about the league and what to expect from it. If it’s anything like past tournaments, it’s going to be an intense and fun event that’ll show just how good players are at the game.

Nintendo has been doing its best to do as many official tournaments as possible in recent times, and Splatoon 3 is a perfect game to do it with, as the event brings together players in teams of four and then encourages them to come up with various strategies that can help them dominate the battlefield. With so many different weapons to use and special abilities to unleash, there truly are an endless number of ways to build a team and have them win. Of course, the same goes for all the other opponents that players will face, which is why leagues like this can have truly riveting matches and exciting finishes. As some have noted, last year’s event didn’t go without controversy, so hopefully, this year will be a lot smoother for all involved.

While we wait for what will be revealed on the 2nd, it’s important to look ahead and see what the future holds for the franchise as a whole. Undoubtedly, we’ll get a 4th entry in the mainline series, as both entries on the Switch sold over 10 million units. Just the reception for the series in Japan was incredible, including setting records at launch and proving something that Japanese culture could truly get behind, thanks to its incredible music and its “idols” that host all the main events and battles.

However, we also know that we’re getting something special for the Nintendo Switch 2, as a spinoff game was announced not too long ago that’ll feature Deep Cut going to some mysterious islands looking for treasure and getting a lot more than they bargained for. The new game still doesn’t have many details, but first impressions show that this will play differently from other campaigns and DLC content, which could help expand the franchise even further.
