Hitman: Absolution is finally coming to Nintendo platforms.

Hitman: Absolution is the fifth game in the franchise. It released all the way back in 2012, on Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

At the time, it earned negative publicity because of an infamous cinematic trailer called ‘Attack of the Saints.’ Hitman: Absolution’s director Tore Blystad would later apologize, and it may have had a real effect on the game’s sales performance.

Why Bring Back Hitman: Absolution

In spite of the controversy and its poor sales, Hitman: Absolution is definitely an important part of the Hitman franchise’s history. Square Enix and I/O Interactive have been slowly rereleasing the old Hitman games through the years, and this is part of that effort.

A New Proving Ground For Agent 47

Feral Interactive announced Hitman: Absolution’s latest ports in a new press release:

Following the mobile release, Hitman: Absolution will arrive on Nintendo Switch in late 2025, with native Switch 2 support to follow in 2026. More details on the Switch versions will be revealed later this year.

Feral Interactive just released Hitman: Blood Money – Reprisal to the Nintendo Switch last year. So it’s clear that I/O Interactive and Feral Interactive want to bring these classic Hitman games to Nintendo’s portable platforms now.

PS5 And Xbox Series X|S Won’t Get This Port – Here’s Why

It’s highly unlikely that Hitman: Absolution will come to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. They already released a Hitman HD Trilogy for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2019. This was an anthology that bundled Hitman: Blood Money, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, and Hitman: Absolution.

Hitman HD Trilogy is easy to play on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, thanks to the backwards compatibility on both systems. So these games are already playable on their newest consoles. But that’s not all.

Hitman: World of Assassination is the modern reboot of the Hitman franchise. I/O Interactive made the fascinating choice to bring their three reboot Hitman games into one large story.

Hitman: World of Assassination works as a platform, in the same way that Fortnite is a platform. I/O Interactive continues to release new content on it. But because of this setup, they don’t need to make new standalone Hitman games if they don’t want to.

Hitman: World of Assassination is on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and even Switch 2. This is I/O Interactive’s current platform for new Hitman content, and it’s what keeping current Hitman fans happy.

But Nintendo fans are slowly getting these older Hitman games as well. It’s a great opportunity for those gamers to play them for the first time.
