Techland Developing Two Games, One Of Which Is Likely Dying Light 2

May 19, 2016 by Stephen Daly

Dying Light is a more important brand for Techland than Dead Island.

Dying Light developer Techland has announced that it is developing two games.

During the Digital Dragons conference in Poland, it was confirmed that one will be an open-world fantasy game with RPG elements and is being developed in Warsaw. The title “maybe in a slightly bigger sense than Dying Light … [but] it’s RPG elements rather than RPG game” CEO Paweł Marchewka told Eurogamer and will offer both co-op multiplayer and single player.

Techland’s studio in Wroclaw is working on the other project, which has not yet been named or detailed. This studio was responsible for Dying Light which proved to be a major success for the company.

Asked directly if the title is Dying Light 2, Marchewka replied that he “Can’t say that.”

Both games have been in development for about a year.

Marchewka did refer to Dying Light 2 when asked about the possibility of making another Dead Island game now that the rift between Techland and publisher Deep Silver has been repaired. The developer is working on Dead Island: Definitive Edition using the same engine as Dying Light. The remaster launches on May 31st for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

“No,” he replied when about the possibility of creating an entirely new Dead Island game. “We had a talk about it but I think Dying Light and Dying Light 2 would be games which are…”

PR manager Anna Lada-Grodzicka added: “The Dying Light brand is more important for us.”

Techland owns the rights to the Dying Light IP while Deep Silver owns Dead Island. Dead Island 2 was being developed by Spec Ops: The Line-maker Yager before Deep Silver hired LittleBigPlanet 3 studio Sumo Digital to finish the project.

Dying Light has had around eight million players with an additional three million players on pirated copies, Marchewka revealed. He recently said the new games would be “more successful” than Dying Light.
