EA Discusses Lack Of Battlefront Single-Player

May 18, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Lack of single-player was due to time constraints.

It’s no secret now that the Star Wars Battlefront video game wasn’t a success. After all, it received a Metacritic score within the low seventies. Now EA is once again, putting out fires about the poorly received release and making some further explanations as to why the game released without a single-player campaign.

Thanks to GameSpot, we learned that EA held an investor call in which the game company talked about the poor results when it came to the release of Star Wars Battlefront. More specifically, the company explained the need to toss away a single-player campaign and instead focus on a multiplayer release.

The results were abysmal with poor reception from both gamers and critics. According to the reports, EA decided that they needed to release the game around the same time as the film Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. However, the game released ahead of launch and contained content based on the original Star Wars trilogy.

Due to time constraints, the development team focused on the multiplayer aspect, but that also lead to a video game that lacked depth. This is something that EA wishes to fix with the sequel to the Battlefront reboot.

Furthermore, the development team also noted that they were not happy with the Metacritic score Star Wars Battlefront received. Again, the blame was due to a time constraint when the development team attempted to meet a release date before The Force Awakens launched.
