Resident Evil: Revelations 3 Was Cancelled Because It “Sucked”

May 23, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Rebecca almost had another game.

Resident Evil fans are waiting for the next installment. After successful mainline installments and a slew of remakes, there’s anticipation that the next release will be a big one. We’re expecting Resident Evil 9 next after Capcom released a remake of Resident Evil 4. However, at one point, development was underway for Resident Evil: Revelations 3.

Fans of the Resident Evil: Revelations series might have been banking on a third installment for a while now. The rumors that flooded the web about the game noted that this game premise would put Rebecca Chambers as the main protagonist. This would be big, as it’s been a long time since we saw Rebecca play a main role in the franchise, but beyond that, we didn’t know what to expect.

Unfortunately, we can go back to not expecting the game at all. Dusk Golem has a strong following when it comes to insider information for the Resident Evil franchise. Replying to one follower about why Capcom canceled the game, there were two major factors. The first factor was that the game wasn’t any good.

(1/2) The answer is unfortuntately rather boring. Revelations 3, like Revelations 1 & 2 before it, weren't primarily made in-house by Capcom. And the results they were getting back just weren't coming in… well, good. They sucked. Capcom at the time had also taken on dev of RE:4 https://t.co/DoQQf45op4

Dusk Golem noted that Resident Evil: Revelations 3 was not developed in-house at Capcom. Instead, the production was being handled by another studio, and the results showed that they “sucked,” leaving Capcom to pull the plug. This decision was also a little easier for the studio at the time.

According to Insider, the remakes of Resident Evil 4 and the next mainline installment, Resident Evil 9, were both in production. With the studio handling both games, it left little resources to spare. This is unfortunate because I’m sure more than a few fans loved the series and would like Rebecca back at the helm. Of course, there’s always a chance we’ll see this project revisited. Still, with Capcom working through a new mainline installment and remakes of their past Resident Evil installments, we’ll just have to wait and see if this series gets a revival.
