GOG Confirms 5 Star Wars Games Have Entered Its Preservation Program

April 29, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

In a galaxy far, far away.

Video game preservation is a big deal; fortunately, we’re seeing more care put into these programs. It might have been a wild idea to think about years ago, but there’s a real concern that some video games will just cease to exist. That’s where something like the GOG Preservation Program comes into play. Today, we’re finding out that GOG is adding five Star Wars games to its Preservation Program, allowing you to enjoy these games now and forever.

A new blog post on the official GOG website revealed that Star Wars fans will find five games added to the program. Best of all, they are even on sale right now. So, if you’re finding your favorite installment on the list, you can score the game at a steep discount. It’s worth noting that you only have until May 6, 2025, to get these games at a discount.

New Star Wars Games Added To Preservation Program

  • STAR WARS™ Dark Forces (Classic, 1995) (-75%)
  • STAR WARS™: X-Wing Special Edition (-75%)
  • STAR WARS™: TIE Fighter Special Edition (-75%)
  • STAR WARS™ Battlefront (Classic, 2004) (-75%)
  • Star Wars™: Rebel Assault 1 + 2 (-75%)

For those who are unfamiliar with what preservation does for video games, it’s a means to keep them supported. Whether a game is attached to just a cartridge or run by servers, these preservation programs allow the games to be backed up and stored so years later; they can be available for fans. This is great not only for fans who just want to play these games, but it’s also a means to treat the games as a work of art and a potential inspiration for future game projects.

With GOG, its program ensures that the games are available to enjoy forever and will remain playable on modern systems. Furthermore, they will come DRM-free. This is just a small addition to their ever-growing catalog of games added to the mix, so you might want to check out their program right here to see what other classic titles are available.
