Minecraft 1.2 Gets Released, Adds Iron Golems, Cats, Children, Jungles, and New AI excerpt: A new patch for Minecraft adds a host of new content to the game.

Rejoice, block builders! The new version of Minecraft is out, bringing the game up to version 1.2 (or actually 1.2.2, as the patch notes state). The game will be automatically updated when you launch the client.

The new version of Minecraft adds the following content into the game, making it more content-rich than ever before:

  • New jungle biome
  • Added ocelots
  • Added cats
  • Added iron golems
  • New AI for mobs
  • Tame wolves can have puppies
  • Villagers will have children if there is room in their village
  • New map height limit (256 instead of 128)
  • New items and blocks
  • Doors have been updated so that double-doors work better with redstone
  • Added rare drops for mobs
  • Many other minor tweaks and fixes

Birches and pine trees have also been added. In addition to all the new content, the Minecraft launcher has also been updated allowing gamers on the Mac to select 64-bit Java installations on the OSX.
