Until Dawn Full Original Prototype Gameplay Has Been Uncovered

March 24, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Check out the full video playthrough.

Until Dawn was a massive hit for the folks at Supermassive Games, originally released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4, the game put the studio on the map for horror fans. Initially, the studio had worked on smaller, lighthearted projects like DLC for LittleBigPlanet. But Until Dawn was the big turning point for the studio, as they had since continued to deliver horror gameplay experiences such as The Dark Pictures Anthology.

However, Supermassive Games initially intended to launch Until Dawn earlier for the PlayStation 3. The game was also slightly different from what we got in the final public build. Fortunately, various groups are looking to preserve games from the industry, including final releases and builds that lead up to the final release. One of those groups has been working on Until Dawn. Digital Preservation on YouTube has uploaded various clips of the original Until Dawn PlayStation 3 build over the past few years.

Today, we’re finding out that the original Until Dawn prototype build from January 2013 has surfaced fully. The entire game was uploaded online and is just under four hours long. You can view the video below, but you’ll notice the big change-up is that the game is in a first-person perspective. At the time, the idea was to build the game centered around the PlayStation Move controller.

However, it would later get changed up and presented in a third-person perspective. That ultimately gave fans a different kind of gameplay experience, and you see how well that game turned out. Again, you can view the full video below. Meanwhile, those of you keen on watching more Until Dead content might be keen on checking out the upcoming movie adaptation. Meanwhile, Supermassive Games is hard at work with a couple of projects; we know that this October should see the launch of Directive 8020, and then we should also see the launch of Little Nightmares III at some point within the 2025 calendar year.
