With the clock winding down for the official Switch 2 Nintendo Direct this April 2, we know that Nintendo is working to make as many units of their console to bring to the US. But fans have now found evidence that it’s already happening.
As reported by GoNintendo, Famiboards user LiC, who was previously sharing updates about shipping data to the Switch 2 factories, now believes completed Switch 2 units are now being shipped. This time, they cited HVBG, a Vietnamese manufacturing company that was contracted by Nintendo. HVBG has allegedly shipped 383,000 units of the Switch 2, as well as 41,598 standalone charging grips.
These units were shipped to North America last January, and they will be distributed across the US and Canada. Given current events, whether that warehouse holding those units is in US or Canada has become unexpectedly important. But maybe that isn’t so important in the bigger picture.
Because as we have pointed out in previous rumors about Switch 2’s shipping data, dataminers like LiC have only been finding information from one or two Nintendo partners and their factories, here and there. Nintendo definitely has more partners along the supply chain who have been supplying and making their Switch 2 consoles and accessories, and even games, regardless of how many titles will be there at launch.
While we won’t guess how many units have actually been shipped to North America at this point, there will definitely have been more than 383,000 units. In fact, since that number was cited for January, that was already older shipping data. So this is really only a rumor of at least 383,000 units, and we assume the actual number is significantly higher by now.
At the start of this month, Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda claimed that Nintendo is planning to sell as many as 6 million Switch 2 units in its first quarter. Of course, to reach that goal, Nintendo will need to make more than 6 million units. Given that most of the market share of the video game industry is in the US, the lion’s share of those units will have to be shipped to the US as well.
So one way of interpreting is rumor is that Nintendo has been working to keep this information secret, but they have scaled up their manufacturing so much that some information finally became available to the public. It may take a while before we find out how many units they actually shipped, but we believe Nintendo won’t disappoint fans and they’ll be able to get their Switch 2 units at launch day, even without having to line up at midnight.
