Monster Hunter Wilds: How to Perform a Power Clash

March 25, 2025 by Matt Villei

Here’s what you need to know!

The Power Clash is a new mechanic introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds and is one of the most useful defensive tools that players can use when battling against these massive creatures. Figuring out how this new system works and practicing how to perform a clash can be pretty dangerous. Players are putting themselves right in the way of enemy attacks when they try to use a Power Clash, so allow me to explain how this new tool works so you aren’t confused while staring down a monster’s claws. This guide will show players how to perform a Power Clash in Monster Hunter Wilds.

How to Perform a Power Clash in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Power Clash is a unique defensive option that can only be done with weapons that can Guard. When you guard against an enemy’s attack, you will build an unseen Clash Gauge that functions similarly to ailments. When you fully build this invisible gauge and reach a specific threshold, you will be able to engage in a Power Clash when blocking an upcoming attack. There are a total of 6 weapon classes that can perform Power Clashes. Below is a full list of all the weapons that can perform a Power Clash:

  • Great Sword
  • Sword and Shield
  • Lance
  • Gunlance
  • Charge Blade
  • Heavy Bowgun

A Power Clash will see you and the monster lock horns against your shield. You will need to repeatedly press the attack button to stab the creature. If you do enough damage, you will push the monster back and will leave it open for a follow-up attack. After you perform a Power Clash, the threshold you need to reach will increase. This means it will take more guards to cause a Clash. This is one of the coolest-looking features in the entire game and can be used to produce serious damage for players who have mastered it.

You now know how to perform a Power Clash in Monster Hunter Wilds. Stay tuned to Gameranx for more news, updates, and guides for Monster Hunter Wilds as well as other great games in the future.
