We’re less than five weeks away from the arrival of the very first Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2. April 2nd will mark an important moment for not just Nintendo but the gaming industry as a whole. It’ll be when we learn more about the console, the games that will be on it at launch and beyond, and just as important, what price it’ll be at release…and when it’ll be released in stores. Since the announcement of said Direct, people have been speculating all over the place about what the release date will be, and that includes some former members of Nintendo’s staff.
As you’ll hear below in the latest episode of the Kit & Krysta Podcast, they brought in a man named Sean, who was a former “sales lead” at The Big N. He made the claim on the show that, most likely, Nintendo would focus on getting the system out as early in the summer period as possible:
“They’re going to want the system to be out before the end of the summer. I would say at the start of the summer, at the end of the school year, so you have kids talking about what they’re excited for. I think we’ll see a June launch. I’m thinking maybe mid-June, or a little bit later than that. But definitely before the end of the summer, that thing’s coming out.”
That could play to Nintendo’s advantage, as that would mean that “more people are available to play their games,” versus hoping that they’re available to get them in earlier months. Recall that the original Nintendo Switch was launched in March 2017, which is obviously a much earlier month of the year. One could point to how Nintendo aimed to start its new console cycle quickly during that period because it failed in the previous console generation.
Sean also noted that retailers likely don’t know the price of the Nintendo Switch 2. That makes sense, as political issues within the United States, one of the biggest sales bases for video games, could heavily influence what prices Nintendo is forced to put on its console.
Either way, if it is a summer release we’re looking at, that would mean we’re only a few months away from launch, and once the Nintendo Direct arrives, we could be only two months out. Nintendo is putting a lot on this system’s arrival, so expect a lot coming from them in the Direct and beyond.
