The Hermit is the second side-quest you’ll need to complete for Blacksmith Radovan in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and it’s also a quest you can solve many, many different ways. You can learn a complicated history and discover secrets, or you can kill your way to the end to get a rare sword. Or you can skip the entire thing and go straight for the sword’s location without ever talking to the Hermit in the first place.
Where To Find Hermit’s Grotto
Located in Apollonia, go to the north edge — after talking to the women of Troskowitz — especially the bar maiden named Betty you worked for during the prologue — you’ll learn more about his location. Go to the big, marked area on the map.
To find his home, go to the center of the rocky cliff path where there’s a road that splits in five directions. Follow the path south and around the corner into a small box canyon. The hermit is living inside this area.
Hermit’s Sword Location
The Hermit’s Sword is located at a grave to the west of the Hermit’s home. Go back to the five-point crossroads and go west to reach the field above — there’s a spot where two trees are intertwined. There’s a Knight’s Grave here marked with the sword. Go here to find it.
Look in the spot marked on the map here. It’s northwest of the Hermit’s home, in a small area with white trees in a meadow. You’ll find the cleared ground with a broken sword stuck into the dirt. You don’t need to visit the hermit to find it, either. You can simply visit this spot to complete the quest and collect the Damascus Steel blade.
- NOTE: There’s nothing inside Ambrose’s grave. There’s no reason to dig it up.
How To Find The Truth About The Devil
Before completing the quest or visiting the Hermit, talk to the villagers in Troskowitz to learn more about the Hermit. Follow these steps to uncover the mystery and find an easier way to complete this quest while earning a bigger reward.
- In Troskowitz, talk to Betty in the Tavern and ask her about the hermit. Go through all her dialogue options.
- This will point you to Gerda. Talk to Gerda in the growing area south of the main road. She’s sitting on a bench outside the house. You’ll need to convince or pay her — she’ll give you two leads.
Go to the cross to the west first. Bring a Spade — and dig it up to find a bag. There is nobody here. Take everything and read the three lore books.
- NOTE: The bag also contains a Crusaders of the Red Star Waffenrock, a cover for your armor.
Next, go to the herdsboy just south of the entrance to Appolonia. Like Gerda, you’ll need to convince him or pay him.
- Talk to him and you’ll learn more about the knights. You’ll learn a new location to explore to the east of the hermit’s home in Appolonia. Travel north and go to the stable in the woods. Examine the black horse to complete the steps and solve the mystery of the devil.
With this complete, you can finally talk to the Hermit. Reveal the three bits of information you learned about the hermit. The hermit will admit to replacing Ambrose — and ask for your help. If you fulfill his task (tell a woman forgiveness in the nearby graveyard) he’ll give you the location. It isn’t necessary if you already know the location listed above, but you’ll get reputation for following these steps. You’ll need a Spade to move the old bones from one grave to another.
- Return To Gerda: You can return to Gerda to tell her what you learned. She’ll give you a book and improve your reputation with the Alchemist Vendor. The book will improve your skill in Alchemy when you read it. After reading it, you can sell it.
Completing The Quest
If you follow these steps, you’ll encounter a group of Knights of the Cross of the Red Star. They’re trying to apprehend the Hermit. You can choose to help them or help Konrad escape. -You’ll earn cash for helping the knights. You can also sell the Knight’s Chronicle book found in the secret grave hiding spot to Brother Arn after the battle.
- If you help Konrad, he’ll tell you the location of the sword. If you help the knights, search the dead body to get everything you need.
Either way, collect Ambrose’s Sword and return to Blacksmith Radovan. He’ll ask you to forge the sword — doing this will allow you to finally enter the wedding in Semine.
