Bethesda Looking to Hire “Future Generation Console Programmers”

February 27, 2012 by Josh Harmon

The studio is hiring programmers for an unannounced next-gen title.

A new job posting from Bethesda reveals the Skyrim and Fallout 3 developer has already begun to turn its attention towards the next generation of consoles.

The listing, which seeks "experienced programmers to work on cutting-edge technology for an unannounced game on future-generation consoles," is relatively light on the details. The position requires most of the things you'd expect, including 5 years of game development experience and familiariarity optimizing for the 360 and PS3, with DirectX 11 experience listed as a plus.

While Bethesda's choice to use the words "future generation" in place of the much more common "next generation" is probably nothing more than a matter of preference, it does open the door for lots of fun, completely baseless speculation. What if the game in question isn't for next-gen consoles, but instead for a system that won't be released until far into the future?

As far as we're concerned, Bethesda just confirmed that Fallout 4 will be an Xbox 1080 launch title? Man, we sure hope it takes full advantage of the Kinect 4's mind-reading capabilities.
