Pokemon Direct Reportedly Won’t Feature Anything Made Specifically For Switch 2

January 15, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Here’s the latest Pokemon rumors you need to know!

We eagerly await Nintendo to pull the veil on the next console release. The Nintendo Switch 2 has all but been officially revealed. There’s been an onslaught of leaks and rumors suggesting everything from the device’s appearance to its performance. But while we expect the new console to be unveiled sooner rather than later, a new report from a game industry insider claims that the upcoming Pokemon-focused presentation will not have anything unveiled specifically for the new console.

Jeff Grub is a reliable industry insider, and recently, his latest podcast touched on the anticipated Pokemon-focused presentation. That should be happening next month, and with it, there might be some of you hopeful that the presentation will highlight a Switch 2-developed game. But that won’t be the case, as Jeff has heard all of the game content featured at the presentation was made for the current Nintendo Switch.

What you might find interesting is that these games will still be compatible with the next console. So, while you can enjoy these games on the new system, nothing that was developed fully intended to be used on the upcoming hardware is being shared. That’s certainly a bummer, as some fans might have hoped that Pokemon Legends: Z-A would receive a boost or advantage using the Nintendo Switch console successor.

For those who might not be as current with the Pokemon franchise, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the next installment for the series following Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The game will take place entirely within Lumiose City, but we’re still waiting for some finer details on this installment. Of course, we know that the folks at Game Freak are still expecting this title to launch sometime this year. You can find the announcement trailer for this game in the video embedded below.
