Need For Speed
will not be getting any more free updates, its developer Ghost Games has announced. The studio, which recently released the SpeedList update for both console and PC versions of the racing game will not be providing any further free updates for the game as work has begun on the next entry in the series, which is due for release in 2017.

The title was recently updated with competitive multiplayer, a prestige mode and a lot of new activities that were missing from the initial release last year.

The Need for Speed franchise, which was previously an annual release, will not be getting an entry this year, making it the second time EA has skipped a year—the last time was in 2014.

In a blog post today, developer Ghost Games announced that it was working on a new title for release next year.

“We are now building upon the foundations that have been laid with Need for Speed and delivering our next game in 2017,” it said.

The studio thanked its fans for playing the most recent Need for Speed and shared an infographic that showed some of the accomplishments the game’s many players managed to get since its release. According to the infographic, players earned 9.8 billion Rep points and took over 35 million snapshots, earning $2.5 trillion worth of in-game cash in total.

We’ll keep you up to date with the development of their new game as more information becomes available.
