The Witcher 4 had its first real showing to the public this past week. During The Game Awards, the ceremony opened with CD Projekt Red’s upcoming RPG. We know that they have been working on this game for a while now. But it wasn’t until this trailer was released that we got confirmation of Ciri taking on the role of the leading protagonist. Beyond that, developers have been sharing a few snippets of information titans through media interviews.
One of the interviews CD Projekt Red did was through Eurogamer. CD Projekt Red’s game director, Sebastian Kalemba, and narrative director, Philipp Weber, spoke with the publication where the topic of Andrzej Sapkowski came up. If you’re unfamiliar with the name, this is the author behind The Witcher franchise. After a series of novels were made, CD Projekt Red eventually developed a deal to adapt the IP into a video game franchise.
Eurogamer asked the duo if they had any involvement with the author regarding The Witcher 4. According to Sebastian Kalemba, he’s hands-off. But they did note that they have a great relationship with the author and meet from time to time. So, the two have enough trust that The Witcher 4 is in good hands. Meanwhile, Philipp Weber said Andrzej would visit the studio to see some of the team’s work. Overall, he is enjoying what CD Projekt Red is making.
Actually, he’s hands off. But, you know, he’s not [involved] in the form of a consultant or whatever, but we have a great relationship with him. So we meet with Andrzej Sapkowski from time to time, discuss things. But generally, there is a great trust between us when it comes to dealing with this world. And I believe we are perfectly calibrated when it comes to the framing. – Sebastian Kalemba
