CD Projekt Red Says The Witcher 4 Launch Won’t Be Like Cyberpunk 2077

December 13, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Devs made changes to ensure this latest upcoming release is far smoother.

Did you catch The Game Awards yesterday? It was the last big event for the gaming industry as the year quickly winds down. With it, we saw several awards handed out to various studios. Likewise, we got more than a few new game trailers. One of the big trailer drops to help kick off the show was The Witcher 4 from the talented folks at CD Projekt Red.

We knew for a good while that CD Projekt Red was working on The Witcher 4. However, details about what the game would entail remained a mystery. Fortunately, the veil was slowly pulled back, and we now know this next thrilling installment will focus on Ciri. While quite a few fans are excited about this next chapter of the beloved fantasy RPG, there is still some concern about how it will launch.

We don’t have to remind you about the fiasco that Cyberpunk 2077 fans had to endure. When CD Projekt Red finally managed to get Cyberpunk 2077 through the finish line, it was met with a disastrous launch. It was so bad that even Sony pulled the game for a period on their digital storefront. Developers had to work for years to get the game turned around for fans. While they managed to accomplish that goal, some are wondering if The Witcher 4 will see a similar fate.

Speaking to IGN, CD Projekt Red developers have suggested that they are confident in avoiding another problematic launch. More than a few areas saw improvements. The main seems to be ensuring there are more checks and balances in place. Executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga and game director Sebastian Kalemba noted that they have become more mindful of how to define stages of production, and while that’s great for scope, it’s also clearer for developers working on the game.

Transparency across the board will ensure everyone knows where the game is in development. That also will aid in marketing, as now we won’t see materials released too early. Of course, there’s plenty of hype about the game right now, but it could be a while before we start seeing more materials released for the public. At any rate, if you missed out on the trailer from The Game Awards, you can find it below.
