Square Enix Is Trying To Get Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Running Optimally On Steam Deck

December 13, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

It does seem that Square Enix will earn that Steam Deck verification soon.

Square Enix has revealed Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s PC specs, alongside a surprise announcement related to the Steam Deck.

And we’ll get to the Steam Deck announcement first. As they revealed on their website:

“The team is working hard to optimize the game for Steam Deck. We’ll have more information about official Steam Deck verification in the future, so keep an eye on our social media accounts for confirmation.”

While this may seem ludicrous on the surface, we think you may change your mind when you see Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s minimum PC requirements:

  • Graphic setting: 30FPS / 1080p (Graphics quality “low”)
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1400 / Intel Core 14-8100
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600 / Intel Arc 1580 / NVIDIA GeForce RRX 2060 (AMD Radeon RX 6600 or later model required / NVIDIA GeForce RTX Series or later model required)
  • Memory: 16GB
  • Storage: 155 GB SSD

So, all things considered, the system requirements Square Enix chose as its minimum are low enough that the Steam Deck could clear them. Yes, even the default memory in the Steam Deck is an SSD, the fabled storage type that many PC gamers justifiably find difficult to upgrade into. If you get a Steam Deck, even second hand, you don’t have to worry about this.

But Square Enix will need to put a bit more active work into earning that Steam Deck Verified label. They’ll want to reach the minimum of ensuring the game will run on every SKU of the device, in most if not all scenarios. But on top of that, they will also want to curate the Steam Deck experience in such a way that it can run with the best graphics and still have the best battery life possible.

And yes, perhaps they want to raise the standard on Steam Deck to be a little bit higher than minimum. In any case, we expect Square Enix to get Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to that standard and to earn its verification, soon enough.

We’ll share the other recommended PC specs below.

“Recommended

  • OS: Windows 11 64-bit

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070
  • Memory: 16GB
  • Storage: 155 GB SSD

Notes: GPU Memory 12GB or greater recommended if 4k monitor is used
