Mortal Kombat 1 Drops Conan The Barbarian Release Date!

December 10, 2024 by Todd Black

Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. And hear the announcer go “Flawless Victory!”

While the fate of Mortal Kombat 1 hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, but highly rumored, the team at NetherRealm Studios is prepping for its final two DLC releases within the Kombat Pack 2. Four characters have already been dropped, and the first of the remaining duo to come out next month to kick off the new year is none other than Conan the Barbarian. Today, Ed Boon himself released the first teaser for Conan’s arrival, showing not only the release date but also how Conan would sound in the game. If our eyes don’t deceive us, that indeed does sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger. NetherRealm and Ed Boon said they wanted to get him, and it appears they may have.

While the gameplay teaser was quick, we do get to see some of Conan’s moves, and what’s very evident is that he’ll be using his sword for much of his moves. That isn’t too surprising, as the “Sword of Conan” is an item intricately tied to the character itself. Plus, he’s a barbarian in a world full of monsters, sorcerers, gods, and more. Half the point is that all he has is his own muscles and a sword, and yet he can take on almost anyone.

More than likely, he will get some variety in his moves so that he’s not just a swordfighter, but that would be a nice twist on the formula, given how many other Kombatants use a menagerie of moves both basic, otherworldly, and technology-driven to make themselves stand out. Sometimes, simpler can be better.

As for when you’ll be able to get your hands on Conan The Barbarian, that would be January 21st, 2025, when the character arrives via the game’s early access program. If we were to take this as a sign of things to come, that would mean that the final Kombat Pack 2 character, the T-1000 Terminator, would likely arrive in March.

What happens after that with Mortal Kombat 1? No one can say for certain. As we noted before, there have been various rumors from plenty of insiders and leakers stating that the game won’t be getting a third pack of DLC due to the poor sales of the “Khaos Reigns” event. If that’s true, the game would be getting a rather abrupt “pumping of the brakes,” as Ed Boon noted that NetherRealm Studios would be supporting this game “for years.”

Nothing is official yet, but the optics aren’t looking good.
