Michel Ancel Claims Too Many Egos Were Involved With Beyond Good and Evil 2

December 9, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Will we ever see this game released?

Will we ever get Beyond Good and Evil 2? Well, your guess is as good as mine. It’s been years of waiting for this game, and while it continues to stick around in development, we have at least one answer for why we haven’t already released it into the marketplace. Apparently, the reason this game is taking so long behind the scenes to get made is poor management.

Thanks to VGC, we’re finding out that Ubisoft’s Michel Ancel commented about the game during an interview with Superpouvior. For those of you unaware of who Michel Ancel is, this video game designer was known for delivering Rayman and the original Beyond Good & Evil. He left the project in 2020, but a few years later, he decided to open up about why the game had a tough time being made since it was initially announced. Again, for those unaware, we first saw Beyond Good and Evil 2 announced in 2008. Then, it wouldn’t be until E3 2017 that it saw another appearance.

According to the famed Ubisoft developer, there were just too many leaders trying to dictate where the game should go. It made it a mess to handle because Michel had an idea of crafting a space adventure while the game director wanted a generated dungeon game. Then, you also had an art director who wanted to redo everything constantly.

Because of that, too many people were working on the project, and they were confused as to who was in charge. Michel even noted that the head of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, got involved to help bring development on track, but even then, it was noted that it continued to fall apart.

We know that the game is still in development. While Michel might not be involved now with the game, this does paint a picture of mismanagement being the culprit as to why we don’t already have the game in our possession. Of course, Ubisoft itself has more than a few issues to work on outside of Beyond Good and Evil 2, such as the Windows 11 update breaking Assassin’s Creed games and talks of a potential Ubisoft buyout.
