Microsoft’s Latest Windows Update Breaks Select Ubisoft Games

November 25, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Here’s what you need to know!

If you’re on a new PC or keep up with the latest OS updates that roll out, you might have made the jump from Windows 10 to Windows 11. After all, Windows 10 will lose support, so naturally, Microsoft is pushing for users to upgrade. However, it seems that the latest Windows 11 update is causing quite a bit of frustration for some PC gamers. This newest update is breaking a few Ubisoft games.

We don’t know if other games are being added to the list, but it seems this update only affects Ubisoft titles. We’re learning about this, thanks to the folks over at VGC. Apparently, Windows 11 version 24H2 is causing a problem with a few Ubisoft games. Microsoft has since acknowledged this and has put in the necessary fixes to this update that would prevent your PC from automatically upgrading if it sees any of the games listed on your drives.

Affected Ubisoft Games

  • Star Wars Outlaws
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
  • Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

As noted, these are just a few games that were found to be broken right now. It also seems that the games might vary regarding the problems players could encounter if they have installed the Windows 11 update. Regardless, the main point of focus here is that the games won’t work outside of Star Wars Outlaws. VGC noted that Ubisoft had already released an update to Star Wars Outlaws to battle the issues Windows 24H2 brought with it. However, it’s not a perfect solution, and we’ll likely see another update rolled out.

So, it looks like those who have already updated Windows 11 will be waiting for another update to address the issue. Meanwhile, for those who have yet to update, you should refrain from a manual update if you are enjoying any of the affected games.
