The video game industry has seen plenty of downs rather than ups recently. With mass layoffs, game cancellations, and even outright studio closures, it’s nice to see something like Ruckus Games form. This is a new studio based in Texas with a slew of veterans from Gearbox Software, Bethesda Softworks, and Monolith Productions, to name just a few. Today, thanks to a report from Gematsu, we’re finding out what the studio has cooked up.
It’s noted that this team wanted to deliver a new multiplayer experience, and with each veteran bringing something to the table, this game might deliver. The studio has already unveiled that they have secured $19 million in funding to help bring this game to life after demoing their project. However, it will be a little while before you can try it yourself.
We don’t even have a name for this game quite yet, as it’s also kept under wraps. But what we do know is that this is set up to be a four-player cooperative gameplay experience. Players will be tossed into just an average Joe in the American heartland. However, you soon find some sinister force has attacked your town, leaving it up to you in an epic battle to take the town back over. Fortunately, you’ll have a wide range of weapons to use at your disposal.
It’s noted that thousands of make-shift weapon combinations can be formed to help you smash away at the competition. When you’re not going through objectives and fighting back to take over the streets, you’ll rescue NPCs and bring them to your Hometown, a hub where you can further upgrade your character and weapons.
Visually, the game looks like it’s quite colorful. After all, it does have Scott Kester as the art director, who was also responsible for the bright, vivid art style of the Borderlands franchise. While waiting for some gameplay footage, the developers ask players to try playtesting the game. The playtests are set to take place sometime in early 2025, and you can sign up to take part on the Ruckus Games website.
