Xbox Is Not Holding Back Any Franchise From Reaching PlayStation Platform

November 13, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Phil Spencer comments on games coming to PlayStation and Nintendo.

Microsoft’s Xbox division has been making some notable moves lately. For a while, we started to see Microsoft make acquisitions. While it might have added more resources to the mix, the acquisitions also saw the inclusion of more IPs directly under Xbox’s control. But in another interesting move, we started seeing Xbox send some of their IP games to rival platforms. That trend might not be ending anytime soon.

In a recent interview, Bloomberg spoke with Xbox head Phil Spencer. During the conversation, Spencer discussed opening up more platforms for Xbox to release games. If you recall, we saw some live service titles and smaller games land on Nintendo and PlayStation platforms. But then you have something like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which was recently unveiled and will also launch on the PlayStation 5 next year.

I do not see sort of red lines in our portfolio that say thou must not. It’s too early to make any sort of decision on the next version of Halo. – Phil Spencer

According to Phil Spencer, he doesn’t see any red lines in their portfolio. This could mean there’s nothing off the table regarding what games might stick with Microsoft and what titles could see a release on something like the PlayStation 5 or Nintendo’s upcoming console successor. From what it appears, Microsoft is pleased with the results so far from the titles they have released outside of Xbox and PC, so we can expect to see more of that in the future.

Of course, that will continue to send red flags for Xbox fans who have invested in this platform if they see it no longer featuring exclusives. Regardless, it will be a waiting game to see if more heavy-hitting titles are coming to PlayStation, such as the next Halo installment. Still, it doesn’t look like Xbox is stepping away from consoles, but just what the company’s future holds is a bit of a mystery.
