Capcom Now Bundles RE 2 to 4 As The Resident Evil Remake Trilogy

October 14, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

One of the greatest runs of video game remakes is now available on the cheap.

Capcom has now produced a new bundle for gamers to catch up to one of their greatest franchise runs.

The official Resident Evil Twitter account shared the news today:

“Add some horror to your October. The Resident Evil Remake Trilogy bundle is now available, containing Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition.”

They also shared a convenient link so you can buy the Resident Evil Remake Trilogy bundle on your platform of choice. These include PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

Resident Evil 2 was released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam, and subsequently came to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, iOS, and cloud streaming on Amazon Luna and Nintendo Switch.

While one would rightly see this remake as the start of the wave of Resident Evil remakes on modern platforms, one could argue that it was a continuation of a remake series that started with Resident Evil 0 and the original Resident Evil in the early 2000s.

The key decision that made this remake successful was Capcom choosing to emphasize horror over action. With many remakes, the new developers either make a remake like they assume it will be superior to the original, or they’re too faithful to the original to the point that it feels dated.

In this case, Capcom’s developers had to let go of some original design decisions and tricks, such as the fixed camera angle that enabled jump scares. So their choice to emphasize horror made their remake closer to the spirit of the original, if it couldn’t remake literally every aspect of the original experience.

Resident Evil 3 was released in 2020, and demonstrated Capcom’s careful and deliberate design decisions. It was made around the same time as Resident Evil 2, and Capcom was mindful of this title’s dramatic shift in game design to an action title.

So, this title recreated the action oriented gameplay of the original. While it’s still a survival horror title, players get a dodge, better movement speed, empowering gamers over the previous remake. While a substantially different title, it was also received well by fans, for being true to how the original Resident Evil 3 also diverged dramatically from Resident Evil 2.

Finally, Resident Evil 4 released last year. Once again, Capcom chose to be faithful to the ideas of the original game, which also makes it a substantially different title to the prior remakes. Matching its emphasis on even more action sequences, it offers six different control schemes, including one matching the original Gamecube setup.

However, Capcom also chose to punch up the horror on this remake. While Leon’s new parry mechanic gives him a lot of options, you can break his knife  in gameplay.

Capcom had previously announced that they didn’t have any big titles left for this year, so they needed something like this bundle for the holidays. These games are available for $ 90, so that’s as good a deal you can get for them as it gets.
