Silent Hill 2 Original Director Praised The New Camera Perspective

October 8, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Masashi Tsuboyama comments on the new remake.

It’s hard to believe that it has been over two decades since Silent Hill 2 first dropped. The game was a hit and remains the pinnacle installment for the entire franchise. However, today, the standard edition of Silent Hill 2 drops, and one of the players excited to try it out is the original director behind the game.

Team Silent put in a lot of work to bring out the first few Silent Hill games. Masashi Tsuboyama was the director behind Silent Hill 2, so naturally, quite a few fans of the franchise were going to wonder about his thoughts on the remake. Fortunately, Masashi is quite active on X and has been slowly hyping up the launch for the remake. But before the game was officially released, Masashi commented about the remake and his time with the original game development.

For the most part, there was a general excitement that players could enjoy the game all over again for modern platforms. There were no longer limitations that original developers had to deal with for the game. One of those limitations that Team Silent wasn’t thrilled about was the camera perspective. Decades ago, developers were forced to deal with the issue due to the processing load. That resulted in the camera view we had in the original game.

However, the new over-the-shoulder view makes some big changes to the gameplay. It impacts combat, level design, art creation, and more. That one change to the camera makes a big difference to the overall feel when playing the game.

🟥The over-the-shoulder view definitely adds to the sense of realism.

In other words, it makes me want to try playing the even more immersive remake of Silent Hill 2!!!🔥🔥🔥#SilentHill2 #SilentHill2Remake

Likewise, it’s because of this over-the-shoulder view that Masashi Tsuboyama is excited to try the Silent Hill 2 remake. Now that the game is out for everyone, we’re excited to see some former developers chime in about the experience and work put into it by the Bloober Team. So far, reviews have been solid, so it looks like Konami has a winner, and fans are likely hopeful that the Bloober Team will continue on with another remake release.
