The Legend of Zelda’s E3 Demo Will Show What Nintendo’s Doing Differently This Time

May 5, 2016 by Stephen Daly

The Legend of Zelda will be the focus of Nintendo’s E3 showing this year.

The Legend of Zelda’s E3 demo will highlight the title’s “clear break from [the] conventions of previous games.”

Nintendo says the demo will “treat people to an immersive Zelda experience,” and reveal the freedom players will have to explore. The platform holder also hopes those in attendance who play the demo will develop a better understanding of how the game represents “something new for the franchise.”

Series producer Eiji Aonuma believes the game will break the franchise’s conventions by removing boundaries and allowing players to go beyond a set path. New gameplay that hasn’t been “experienced in previous games in the series” will also be introduced.

Nintendo has previously stopped short of calling the game open world so it’s not quite clear how it will be different. Previous Zelda games have often allowed players to tackle dungeons from the start once found.

Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime will begin a Nintendo Treehouse: Live E3 show at 09:00 PST/12:00 EST/17:00 BST on Tuesday, June 14th. A day of live-streamed The Legend of Zelda gameplay will follow, offering fans their first in-depth look at the game and commentary from Nintendo developers.

Gameplay will also be streamed through Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels as well as the company’s dedicated E3 website.

There appear to be no plans for a Nintendo Direct stream at this year’s E3 so don’t expect any announcements to come from the event.

The Legend of Zelda will be released on Wii U and Nintendo’s upcoming NX system in 2017.
