Metaphor: ReFantazio Fans Concerned About Game’s Marketing

October 2, 2024 by Carley Garcia

The Atlus RPG is set to release next week.

Fans of Atlus’ Persona series are incredibly excited for Metaphor: ReFantazio, a fantasy RPG that looks to scratch all the same itches as the popular franchise. Unfortunately, some fans are concerned about the game’s marketing, implying that it won’t sell as well as it deserves due to some choices being made by executives.

Although the game is set to release on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, the Xbox marketing has been extremely heavy. In Japan, the Xbox is not a popular console, with JRPGs often selling poorly on Microsoft machines in the country. Many people seem to think that Metaphor: ReFantazio will be an Xbox exclusive, which may result in lower sales numbers overseas.

“Atlus is terrible at marketing,” a post from YouTuber Mightykeef reads. “They should never have let Xbox have the rights to advertising. JRPGs do not sell well [on Xbox]. I still got people telling me they thought Metaphor was an Xbox exclusive. Get this game when it comes out man, it’s fire.”

The first review for the game was published by Famitsu today, with the legendary Japanese gaming magazine giving the new Atlus RPG a 37/40.

The upcoming game is set in a medieval fantasy world that serves as a “mirror” of the contemporary real world. Players will set out on a journey to protect their kingdom while defeating enemies and getting closer to their companions, similar to the Persona series.

Studio Zero recently revealed the full English voice cast for Metaphor: ReFantazio. The protagonist will be played by Caleb Yen, best known for his appearances in Honkai: Star Rail, Triangle Strategy, and Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store on October 11. Both physical and digital editions are available for pre-order, and along with the standard edition, a Digital Deluxe Edition commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Atlus brand is also available to order.
