Rumor: Switch 2 Will Be Revealed Next Month, With A Really Good Price

September 13, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

So maybe it won’t be $ 500.

We have some interesting new rumors about the Switch 2.

As shared on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit by user Technical-Manager921, a new source who correctly predicted the announcement date and price of the PlayStation 5 Pro has now made their prediction for the Switch 2.

This person goes by the Discord handle Average Lucia Fanatic, and this is what they have to say about Nintendo’s next console:

“Switch 2 gets announced early next month. I’m hearing a base MSRP of $400.

It’ll come in 2 different SKU’s haven’t gotten clarification and the specific differences between them though.”

As Technical-Manager921 points out, since this source is new, we don’t have enough of a frame of reference if the prediction could be correct or not. But with one correct prediction down, and for something as high profile as the PlayStation 5 Pro, Average Lucia Fanatic is on an average start as a future source of video game rumors.

Whether they have a real source, or could be making an intelligent guess, we can talk about whether these choices make sense for Nintendo.

We just reported on rumors that Nintendo would not be revealing the Switch 2 this month, since they have Switch bundles to announce instead. That makes sense, and it would also go in line with the fact that Sony just revealed their PlayStation 5 Pro.

While some fans like to argue that Sony and Nintendo go after different audiences with their consoles, the two companies actually have to think about the gamers who play on both Nintendo and PlayStation. With this in mind, both benefit from keeping each other’s product announcements and launches as far apart from each other as possible.

In terms of price, $ 399 or $ 400 upwards is good positioning between their competition. The original 64 GB Steam Deck is also $ 399, and so was the digital version of the PlayStation 5 at launch.

It is, interestingly enough, priced in between the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. But then, you can also get an Xbox Series S now for cheaper than the Nintendo Switch OLED. Nintendo may have rightly concluded that the Series S’ pricing won’t affect the popularity and success of their own products.

It’s also considerably lower than the prices of the fledgling category of Windows based gaming handhelds, securing its position as a device for the mass market, even at a slightly higher retail price than the Switch models.

So this all sounds very reasonable, but we can’t really say we’re 100 % or even 95 % sure. Nintendo may very well throw a last minute curve ball we didn’t expect, such as making the Switch 2 a cheap mixed reality headset. The Quest 3 set the floor on that with $ 499 for its 128 GB model, and that’s where Nintendo could put their own product on, or higher.

But at this point, we’re just throwing our own wild Switch 2 predictions. When Nintendo finally tells us what the Switch 2 is, all questions and speculation on their future will finally end.
