Get ready to tweak your loadouts endlessly! In this list, we will focus on some of the best action-packed looter shooters coming our way in 2025. That said, this list is not ranked in any particular order, as we’ll have to see how these titles end up doing when they officially launch into the marketplace.
#12 Deadzone: Rogue

Have you ever had the nightmare of waking up somewhere you didn’t recognize and then being swarmed by monsters? In Deadzone: Rogue, that’s exactly what you’ll have to deal with! Oh, and you have no memories of your past. Fun times!
The game is all about survival, which won’t be easy, given that you’re fighting monsters on a ship that you don’t know your way around. The good news is that the more enemies you fight, the more gear you’ll get, and that means you’ll have a better chance of getting through things.
So loot as much as you can and ensure you’re not the next victim on this ship!
#11 Gatekeeper

When time itself is threatened, it’s up to the Gatekeepers to get the job done and take out the forces of Chaos. Yes, literally, that’s who you’re fighting. However, how you decide to take them down is up to you!
Each Gatekeeper has unique abilities that can be powered up and unlocked over time. That means you’ll be able to work with your friends/fellow Gatekeepers to take on threats on all levels and tag team them into oblivion.
Just remember, the forces you face are deep and terrifying. If you’re not ready for what’s to come, then all is lost.
#10 Road to Vostok

For looter shooters, the most important thing is the loot itself. In Road to Vostok, you’ll find out the hard way that it’s really easy to lose it all when you’re dead.
The game takes place in a version of the world where certain “zones” are safe, and others aren’t. If you make it to the crossing where the Vostok zone is, and you enter it, you’re in the literal permadeath zone. You’ll get great loot there, but it only means something if you survive long enough to use it.
If you die? You start over from scratch. So make every move carefully.
#9 Mycopunk

What happens when robots go up against a “fungal menace?” You’re about to find out in Mycopunk.
You and a few others are part of a ragtag team of robots that are basically conscripted into doing work for a corporation. How nice. Their job is to go to a place that is being overrun by a fungus, one that is causing far more problems than it should, and figure out what’s going on.
That means you’ll have to go up against many different kinds of creatures, so you’ll need to take advantage of all the tech you find so you can overcome the threats and don’t become a rusted pile of metal.
#8 Pioner

You had to know that there would be multiple post-apocalyptic looter shooters on this list, and Pioner is another to add to that personal list. This one takes place on an island from an alternate version of our reality. Survival is far more than a game, here, it’s something far more important.
The game is story-driven, but you can also experience it with friends to see just how far you can push things. You might want to do some extraction missions so you can better loot for the battles ahead. Also, be sure to keep an eye on your character and what they need, as survival is multi-layered here.
#7 Killer Bean

Are you ready to “be the Bean?” In Killer Bean, you’ll play as, well, a killer assassin bean, who was betrayed by the organization they were a part of. As such, they go on a one-bean tirade to try and bring it all down around their heads. If you’re a fan of over-the-top action games that has movie stylings and slow motion, this is the game for you. However, there’s a huge twist.
The game doesn’t give you a singular campaign to go through. Instead, the title changes everything up with every single runthrough you do. So, you could beat the game, play it again, and have a completely different experience.
#6 Hunger

Have you ever noticed that all these end-of-the-world games are trying to depress you with their settings and goals? We’re just saying. In Hunger, you’ll find yourself within a version of Europe that has been decimated by a plague. You choose to step out of the “safe area” that many find comfort within to see what lies in the “World After The End.”
Whether you choose to embark on this quest alone or with others is up to you, but the trials will be the same, and they won’t be easy. You’ll have to do quests, garner supplies, and take on the monsters that this fallen world has produced. Do you think you can manage all of that?
#5 SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada

The world has fallen due to “The Tears of the New Moon,” which poisoned the land and forced people underground. With humanity struggling to survive in their new underground homes, people, including you, are sent out to the surface and other dangerous areas to find items known as AO Crystals.
The journey to get them is filled with perils, including monsters that were created by the mysterious rain. With your mech and AI by your side, you’ll attempt to get the crystals and return home. However, it’s not just monsters in your way; other players are trying to get those crystals, too! Fight back, get your reward, and then strike out once more!
#4 Surfpunk

Do you get the impression that people are just trying to put “punk” at the end of every possible word to see if they can come up with something new or special? Is anyone else getting that vibe? In Surfpunk, yes, that really is the game’s title; you’ll be a surfer who must use their board to go to various islands and ruins to get loot! Then, when the monstrous Sumi shows up to try and stop you, you’ll need to race back home!
You can play the game alone, or you can play the game with friends. Either way, the journey ahead is what you make of it!
#3 Abyssus

It was SUPPOSED to be a simple mission! You were to go down with your team into the depths of the ocean and find the special substance known as “Brine” so that you could help power the world above. See? Simple!
Except, when you get down there, you find out that there are beings still alive in this place, and now, you have to kill them all before they kill you. No pressure!
Whether you fight alone or with friends, you’ll have plenty of options. Make your character what you want, and then get the best weapons you can to augment them and tailor them to your playstyle. Whatever it takes to get out.
#2 Earth From Another Sun

Not all looter shooters are built the same way, and some of them come in the form of a galaxy-wide MMO for you to play with your friends. Doesn’t that sound like fun?
Regarding Earth From Another Sun, you’ll be put into a galaxy where you can do just about anything you want. That includes going around fighting enemies and building up massive armies to try to take over everything! We’re sure many of you would love to do that path.
But there are more nuanced ways to handle things, too. So once you’re done with the looter shooter style, you might want to try those.
#1 Borderlands 4

Behold! The game series that truly started the “looter shooter” genre! Sure, there could’ve been a game before this, but does anyone really remember it? Anyway, for many years now, Gearbox Software has shown us the chaos of Pandora and the crazy people that live within it. However, the story isn’t done yet, as Borderlands 4 is coming!
While details are still light, we know that things won’t change too much from past titles. That means you’ll have options on who to play as, millions, if not billions, of guns to wield, and some truly menacing and scary people to shoot up until they can’t move anymore. Fun times!
