Pop Band Turns Down Offer to Appear in GTA 6 Due to Low Pay

September 9, 2024 by Carley Garcia

Heaven 17 isn’t having any of it.

The English pop band Heaven 17 isn’t pleased with the pay offer it recieved to appear in GTA 6. Band member Martyn Ware took to Twitter to share some choice words with Rockstar, sharing that the group was offered just $7,500 to include their song in the upcoming game’s soundtrack.

“I was recently contacted by my publishers on behalf of Rockstar Games regarding the possibility of using Temptation on the new Grand Theft Auto 6,” wrote Ware. “Naturally excited about the immense wealth that was about to head my way, I scrolled to the bottom of the email regarding the offer…

IT WAS $7500 – for a buyout of any future royalties from the game – forever…To put this in context, Grand Theft Auto 6 grossed, wait for it… $8.6 BILLION.” It’s likely that Ware was referring to the series as a whole in his Tweet, rather than the unreleased GTA 6. He continued with a certain expletive aimed at Rockstar.

For those claiming H17 should have accepted the extremely low offer for buyout for Temptation in GTA6 claiming ‘increased exposure’…

An extra 1 million streams generates each writer a pitiful $1k each

Music is a big part of the Grand Theft Auto series, with the soundtrack for GTA 5 featuring over 240 tracks.

GTA 6 will be the sixteenth entry to the series overall and will be set within the fictional Vice City in the open-world state of Leonida. The title will follow a criminal named Lucia and her male partner and will parody modern American culture as seen in its first trailer.

Since it was first released in September 2013, the previous entry, GTA V, has shipped over 160 million units worldwide. In February 2021, Rockstar confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 was actively in development.

GTA 6 doesn’t yet have an official release date, though recent rumors imply that the game has been pushed to 2026 from its planned 2025 release window.
