Rocksteady Suffers Layoffs After Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Bombs

September 2, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

What will Rocksteady do next?

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League was not the massively popular release Rocksteady Studios hoped for. After releasing some incredible Batman titles with the line of Arkham games, the successor to that beloved franchise fell flat, and now it looks like the developers are forced to suffer in the form of layoffs. We always hate hearing about studios finding themselves walking on eggshells in hopes of not getting cut. We’ve seen quite a bit of that lately within the industry.

While we wait for the gaming industry to bounce back, Rocksteady Studios is missing some employees. Thanks to a report from Eurogamer, we’re discovering that a slew of layoffs have occurred at Rocksteady Studios. This set of layoffs is tied to the QA department, which was labeled as redundancies. Those redundancies reduced a team of 33 employees in the QA department to just 15. That is quite a cut, and it seemingly came out of nowhere.

Eurogamer noted that one employee discovered their job was cut during the middle of their paternity leave. While the QA department still has 15 employees left, it will make their jobs far harder as they will need to take on even more work. But we’ll have to wait and see if that department finds more hands on deck when they press on with their next project. Just what that next venture will be remains a mystery at this point.

Their current title release, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, didn’t receive the greatest reviews from critics and fans alike. This game was also quite a surprise for fans who loved the line of Batman Arkham games only to see the studio turn out a live service gameplay experience. It would be surprising to see if their next venture doesn’t turn away from a live service game, but we’ll have to wait and see.
