Dragon Age: The Veilguard Always Planned to Continue Story

August 12, 2024 by Carley Garcia

The Veilguard was always going to follow up on Inquisition’s ending.

In a new interview with Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar), James Epler, the creative director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, confirmed that the upcoming title was always going to continue the story found in Dragon Age: Inquisition. After a decade, many fans worried that the next game in the franchise would have an entirely different story, but thankfully, this is not the case.

“The world exists as it does because of Solas,” Epler said. “He shaped the world because of the kind of character he was. That’s, to me, what makes Dragon Age so interesting. Everything can tie back to a person who to some degree thought they were doing the right thing.

We set that up at the end of Trespasser. There was no world where we were ever going to say, ‘And now let’s go to something completely different’. We wanted to pay off that promise.”

Last month, it was announced that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will include over 140,000 lines of dialogue, up from the 88,000 lines found in Inquisition. Additionally, the RPG will also include over 700 characters.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will take place ten years after Dragon Age: Inquisition and 22 years after the Battle of Ostagar, or the start of Dragon Age: Origins. The Inquisitor from the previous title will return in the upcoming game, with players able to customize their appearance.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S this fall. No release date has been announced, but many speculate that the title will be released in October.
