GTA 6 Won’t Be Affected By SAG-AFTRA

July 29, 2024 by Faith Lane

GTA 6 is still coming.

With the ongoing strike, SAG-AFTRA, that started on July 26th, 2024, Grand Theft Auto 6 won’t be affected, which is something that many were worried about once the strike was made public online. A union representative said that “performers working on the game are allowed to continue to work on the project.” Currently, there are no leads on who the voice actors are for the main characters or anyone who is voice acting within the game. This strike has been called by the union for American actors due to failed negotiations to protect the use of AI for the actors.

In September of 2023, SAG-AFTRA had members approved through a strike. The strike would only take action if the union could not get acceptable terms between the union and the Interactive Media Agreement. SAG-AFTRA has been in negotiations with not just one but several companies that work within the video gaming industry. Some companies to list are:

  • Activision Productions
  • Blindlight
  • Disney
  • EA Productions
  • Formosa Interactive
  • Insomniac Games
  • Epic Games
  • Take 2 Productions
  • VoiceWorks Productions
  • WB Games

There is no telling how long this strike will take place, especially with the one that happened not long ago for TV that ended up delaying many projects years or even months. With all that being said, and these strikes are ongoing, Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to release in 2025. Available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a port for PC coming later on.
