Final Fantasy XIV May Add 24-Player Savage Raids, Says Director

July 15, 2024 by Carley Garcia

As if Savage isn’t sweaty enough.

Earlier this month, the Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV brought a level cap boost from 90 to 100, a new playable race, two new DPS classes, new cities, new dungeons and raids, a new limited job, and an entirely new story arc. The fanbase is thrilled with so much new content to enjoy, but Naoki Yoshida, the game’s director, is eager to add even more.

During Japan Expo 2024 in Paris, Yoshida, known by the community as Yoshi-P, chatted about the return of field operations and the possibility of 24-player savage raids.

“I can’t go into too much detail yet, but we’re trying to create 24-player savage content, and we’re also about to start a new series of large-scale exploration content starting with Patch 7.2,” Yoshida said.

Currently, the Alliance Raids in Final Fantasy XIV are more approachable, with many players speedrunning older content by ignoring mechanics and simply focusing on outgoing damage. One 24-man savage raid has been added to the game before–Delubrum Reginae, the finale to the Bojza story in the Shadowbringers expansion. Additionally, The Baldesion Arsenal in Eureka is considered by many to be equivalent to a savage duty despite not being marked as such.

While PC players have seen incredibly short queue times for Dawntrail when compared to those seen during the release of Endwalker in 2021, those on consoles faced some technical issues.

The 7.0 update also vastly improved the game’s visuals, including textures, hair, grass, shadows, and reflections. This was the title’s first graphical upgrade since it was first released in 2013 and is being extremely well-received by fans.
