Game Science has revealed what you can expect, and not expect, at the launch of Black Myth Wukong.
As revealed on their site’s official FAQ, Black Myth Wukong is launching on August 20, 2024, on PC and PlayStation 5. However, they will be releasing the Xbox Series X|S version on a later date. Game Science shared this explanation:
“We are currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards, so it won’t release simultaneously with the other platforms. We apologize for the delay and aim to minimize the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards.”
While there are fans that speculate that the Xbox Series S version is the potential reason for a delay, Game Science did not explicitly say so. But this other news will make it clear that Game Science isn’t ready for a lot.
Game Science is launching pre-orders for PC and PlayStation 5, and they also have PC deluxe and collector’s editions for Black Myth Wukong. However, they have already stated that they won’t have discs ready for these physical versions when the game launches.

“Game Science is actively collaborating with several production teams to concurrently produce both the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions in physical format.
Due to the production of the physical edition involving a significant amount of necessary manual processes and our mutual commitment to quality, we regret that we cannot guarantee immediate delivery of all physical editions right after the release.
Both physical editions come with an activation code for the Digital Deluxe Edition of Black Myth: Wukong. To ensure the Destined One with a physical edition can play on August 20th’s launch, activation codes will be sent in advance by the customer service of our sales platform after purchase confirmation.
It is the first time for Game Science to release a console game globally, and we are currently facing limitations in offline resources required for the import, export, transportation, distribution, and sales of physical discs. These factors have made it difficult for us to sell physical discs simultaneously with the official release of the game.
Our publishing team is actively working on resolving these issues and exploring options to offer physical discs.”
Now, to be clear, the only physical versions available will be Deluxe and Collector’s Editions. Those come bundled with multiple physical items, and not just a disc. So, Game Science will be able to ship a code with those bundled items first, and collectors will have to trust they will send the discs later.
Since Game Science wasn’t ready for all of this, it’s not surprise that they aren’t able to do a worldwide launch either. But this is all honestly understandable for a new developer. If Black Myth Wukong turns out to be successful, they’ll have the opportunity to do this better with future titles.
